NC, Maoists agree to accelerate dialogue to resolve deadlock

Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist have agreed to accelerate the discussion in order to find a solution to current political deadlock the earliest.

Senior leaders of the two parties met at the Maoist central office in Buddhanagar Saturday morning.

Maoist leaders Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai, Ram Bahadur Thapa and Mohan Baidhya and Congress leaders Shushil Koirala, Prakash Man Singh, Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Mahesh Acharya and Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat were present at the meeting.

The party leaders also arrived at the conclusion that solution to the current crisis should be found through dialogue and keep the seven-party unity alive.

Meanwhile, chief of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Ian Martin met with semi-underground communist leader Prakash on Saturday morning. The meet took place at Tinkune, at the office of Jana Morcha Nepal.

In another development, NC leaders also met with Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) leaders on Saturday. The meeting took place at the parliamentary party office of UML in Singh Durbar.

"We are working to resolve the deadlock before the winter session of the parliament begins on November 19. We want to build understanding on the proposals passed by the parliament," said Bharat Mohan Adhikary, standing committee member of the UML.

Mahesh Acharya, central leader of NC, said, "We are in favour of moving ahead based on understanding by also respecting the proposals passed by the parliament." nepalnews.com ia/sd Nov 17 07
