VDC secretaries in Rautahat, Bara and Sarlahi resign en masse
Village Development Committee (VDC) secretaries in Bara, Rautahat and Sarlahi districts have resigned en masse Monday citing growing security threats.
All 98 VDC secretaries in Rautahat announced their resignation complaining of threats of physical attack, intimidation and extortion. They submitted their resignation to the local development officer.
Likewise, citing similar reasons, 70 VDC secretaries in Bara district also announced their resignation today. In their statement, the secretaries said other 25 secretaries who are out of station currently would follow the suit.
In a similar move, 63 VDC secretaries of Sarlahi district resigned en masse protesting the government’s indifference towards their security. They said that remaining 36 VDC secretaries would soon give their signatures to the joint resignation letter.

Meanwhile, the Teachers and Employees Struggle Committee in Siraha has also announced the closure of all educational institutions in the district from today alleging that government of not paying attention to their security.
Employees in government offices, NGOs and financial institutions have again halted all works complaining of security threats against them.
They said they were compelled to take this drastic measure as the government turned a deaf ear to their repeated plea for arranging proper security for them.
About two weeks ago, more than 400 employees of government offices, local bodies and corporations based in Saptari district had sent a joint resignation letter to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala citing the same reasons.
