Citing increase in the demand for electricity with the start of winter season, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has raised the hours of load shedding in the country. From now on consumers would have to face up to four hours of power outages or load-shedding every week.
NEA's Sher Singh Bhatt told Kantipur Daily that they had no option but to increase the hours of load-shedding as the demand for electricity increased with industries in Terai again coming into operation after the long Chhath festival.
"From now on consumers would have to face two hours of load shedding two days of the week," Bhatt told the daily, adding that the hours of load shedding may further grow within few days.
Earlier, the residents of Kathmandu valley used to face minor power cuts as offices, factories and industries in the country were closed owing to Dashai and Tihar festival. While the valley faced only half an hour of power cuts from 5:30 pm to 6 pm, consumers outside the valley used to face 45 minutes of load shedding. nepalnews.com ag Nov 20 07
