Cabinet instructs local administration to ensure security of the people
The cabinet meeting on Tuesday discussed the situation of insecurity, particularly in Terai region, and decided to instruct the local administrations to work to fulfill the security needs of the people.
According to Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel, the cabinet assessed the security situation from Parsa to Saptari districts. "The cabinet has instructed the field administration to provide security as demanded by the people," he told media.
The issue of placement of one dozen newly appointed government secretaries, however, could not be finalised on Tuesday's meeting.
Likewise, Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula said that the cabinet discussed the issue of extending the tenure of UNMIN by six months.
The UNMIN's tenure is expiring in January. Earlier, Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan had said that the cabinet decision on extending UNMIN's tenure must be endorsed by the seven parties since UNMIN was initially invited by the government and the Maoists jointly. nepalnews.com sd Nov 20 07
