Govt to cut down palace security by half

In a reaction to King Gyanendra's unannounced trip to Kumarighar in Basantapur on Sunday night to receive tika from Kumari, the government has decided to cut down the security of the royal palace by half.

"The government has raised objection over the trip," said Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel, speaking at an interaction in the capital on Monday. He informed that the Prime Minister has ordered to cut down the security in the palace by half since he was angry with the King's move.

On Sunday night, King Gyanendra had traveled to Basantapur around 45 minutes after PM had gone there in his capacity as acting Head of State. Stripped off his political as well as cultural rights, for the first time in 250 years, King Gyanendra had gone to Kumarighar to receive tika from the Living Goddess as a commoner.

On Monday, PM also inquired with the army chief about the security arrangement for the King's trip. nepalnews.com sd Oct 01 07
