Disruption in Kantipur continues; Mahara says it is internal matter
Despite widespread condemnation against the action by pro-Maoist workers to obstruct the printing and publishing of Kantipur and The Kathmandu Post dailies, they have continued to disrupt it.
As the activists of the union had seriously damaged the printing facility at Jadibuti, Kathmandu, the normal publication remains halted since Monday morning.
Meanwhile, the activists even seized copies of the two dailies in Pokhara published from Bharatpur division. They were brought to Pokhara for distribution. The pro-Maoist workers have also warned to obstruct publishing from Bharatpur division.
Likewise, Kantipur FM reported that copies of the two dailies published from Biratnagar division were seized on Tuesday morning when they were being brought to Dharan.
"The situation has gone beyond being the issue of management-workers dispute. It has reached to the point where it can be termed a crime," said Shiva Gaunle, vice president of Federation of Nepalese Journalists.
On the other hand, Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara has reiterated that the issue is an internal matter. "Our attention has been drawn towards attempts to drag the name of our party in this matter between the publication management and workers," Mahara said.
Mahara reiterated that his party has 'no policy of interfering in press freedom.' He said that the issue should not be brought into a political level. nepalnews.com sd Oct 02 07
