Teachers stage "chalk down" protest
Two days after forcing most of the private and public schools across the country to close down for a day, Maoist aligned Educational Republican Forum called for a "chalk down" protest in schools across the country on Wednesday.
Due to what it called a "symbolic protest," studies in many schools were affected as teachers affiliated with the organisation refused to take classes to express solidarity to the educational strike announced by the forum.
The forum said it was left with no option but to announce the strike as the government and private school operators failed to keep their promise to implement the agreement they reached with the forum in March this year.
The Forum had earlier given mid-August deadline to meet the demands, which includes better salaries, facilities and permanent status to all the schoolteachers.
However, the teachers say they would not disrupt classes but would refrain from teaching until their demands are met. The "chalk down" protest, it said, would continue till tomorrow.
The teachers' forum has already announced a number of protest programs after which includes "silent" protest, and picketing the District Education Office. nepalnews.com ag Oct 03 07
