FM Pradhan meets UN secretary-general in New York

Minister for Foreign Affairs Sahana Pradhan met with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the sidelines of the 62nd session of the UN general assembly Tuesday evening.

According to the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations, issues of priority in the UN’s agenda and recent political developments in Nepal were chiefly discussed during the meeting.

A press release issued by the Permanent Mission said the foreign minister expressed Nepal government’s commitment to holding Constituent Assembly election in the stipulated time and apprised the secretary-general about the ongoing dialogue with the CPN (Maoist) with view to bring them back to the government and the CA election process.

She appreciated the cooperation of the UN in Nepal’s peace process and extended an invitation to the secretary-general to visit Nepal.

The two also discussed the arrangements being made for the relocation of the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament (RCPD) in Kathmandu. On the same day, FM Pradhan held series of meetings with other senior UN officials in New York.

She also attended a luncheon hosted by Sonia Gandhi, chairperson of the Indian National Congress, and a round-table meeting to commemorate the International Day of Non-Violence on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. nepalnews.com mk Oct 03 07
