PM summons special parliament session on Oct 11
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has summoned the special session of the Interim Legislature Parliament on October 11.
Koirala summoned the special session after consultation with Speaker Subas Nemwang.
Earlier today, the seven parties reached an agreement to suspend the November 22 elections and summon the special session of the parliament in order to find a way out of the current political deadlock.
Three parties – CPN (Maoist), CPN (Unity Centre) and CPN Leftist Front – had registered a petition at the Parliament Secretariat on Sept 28, demanding the special session. The Prime Minister is constitutionally obliged to call the special session within 15 days of the registration of such a petition.
Even as the parties decided to suspend the polls and call the special session they have not reached any tacit understanding on the decisions to be taken by the special session.
The Maoists have long been demanding announcement of republic and abolition of monarchy though a parliamentary proclamation. nepalnews.com mk Oct 05 07
