King’s cavalry now under army chief’s control
The Nepal Army has brought the King’s Household Cavalry under the office of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
The decision to this effect came after Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala ordered the army chief to halve the army personnel stationed at the royal palace after King Gyanendra visited Hanuman Dhoka to receive tika from virgin goddess Kumari without the permission of the government.
The household cavalry, which was under the control of the Royal Guard Brigade at the palace before, was responsible for providing horses and carriages during important ceremonies and palace functions. nepalnews.com ag Oct 06 07
