Maoists abduct journalist in Bara

Maoists have abducted Birendra Shah, the Bara correspondent of Kathmandu-based Nepal F.M, in Bara district.

Members of the Maoist-affiliated Tharuwan National Liberation Front (TNLF) abducted him from a place near Dagiya Basti last evening. The Maoists, however, released Ram Dev Shah, the manager of a local newspaper 'Terai Khabar', who was abducted along with Shah.

Local Maoist leaders have confirmed Shah’s abduction, but have not confirmed the reason behind the abduction.

Shah is also a central member of Press Chautari, a pro-UML media group. nepalnews.com mk Oct 06 07
