Food crisis in western hilly districts
At the approach of the biggest Hindu festival of Dashain, the western hilly districts have started facing food shortage that is usual with the beginning of winter every year.
Humla and Jumla districts have already been facing the crisis while the stock in Mugu, Dolpa, Dailekh and Kalikot districts has finished.
The food corporation has not been able to transport more food to the districts for the last several weeks. The corporation officials said the problem has arisen as transportation to these districts has been obstructed due to landslides along the highways.
The government has allotted funds to transport food only to Dolpa, Mugu and Humla through flights. In other districts, the government has asked the corporation to transport through land. However, the Surkhet-Jumla highway has been blocked due to landslides in several places leading to delay in supply of the food items in hilly districts.
This year, the hilly districts have received less than half of the total quota of food allocated by the government. nepalnews.com ia Oct 07 07
