Himalayan Film festival in London

London Chhalphal—a Nepal-facing discussion forum-- and SOAS Nepal Society are organizing a two-day long film festival in London this week (October 12 and 13).

According to the organisers, the festival with the theme "Nepali Conflict—Life Goes On" will feature a total of nine films/documentaries covering various aspects of Nepal and Nepali life. " As Nepal is trying hard to emerge out of the decade-old violent conflict, we hope to sensitise people about challenges of building peace and its impact especially on children," said Rajesh Babu Shrestha of London Chhalphal ( http://www.london-chhalphal.org).

The films going to be screened in the festival include Birlal: Real Honey Hunter, Voice of the Abandoned, Better to Have Been Killed, Unreported World, The Living of Jogimara, Operation Free Voice, Pani (Water) and Suk Bahadur Adhikari. All films are in English or with English subtitles. All the films will be screened at School of African and Oriental Studies (SOAS) and entrance is free for all films. Details about the timing and length of the films can be accessed at http://www.HimalayanFilmFestival.co.uk

"Film is a very powerful medium to portray life and times of communities around the world," said Shrestha, adding, "We are optimistic that our audience would enjoy viewing these films and find their horizons widened regarding various aspects of the Nepali/Himalayan societies and issues they are facing." nepalnews.com Oct 07 07
