FNJ sends mission to Bara to search for journalist Shah

The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has deployed a mission to Bara district on Sunday to initiate the release of journalist Birendra Shah abducted by Maoist cadres on Friday.

The team is led by Ramesh Bista, central committee member of FNJ. Other members of the mission include Gagan Thapa, general secretary of Press Chautari and Junarbabu Basnet, treasurer of Nepal Press Union.

Birendra Shah, a Bara based journalist affiliated to Nepal FM, Dristi Weekly and Avenues TV was abducted by Maoist cadres on Friday evening from Pipara Bazaar, Kalaiya -6. The Maoists have however denied their involvement in the incident.

The team is scheduled to meet with local journalists, leaders of political parties and representatives of civil society and human rights activists.

In the mean time, Press Chautari has organised a demonstration in Kathmandu demanding immediate release of journalist Sah, who is also a central committee member of Press Chautari. The rally started from Babermahal and ended at Maitighar. nepalnews.com ia Oct 07 07
