Govt to document details of ancient monuments
The Department of Archaeology (DoA) has restarted collecting information of historical monuments and artefacts from around the country to classify them on the basis of their national and local significance.
Nepal lacks comprehensive data about numbers, types and condition of the numerous historical monuments, even of those in Kathmandu valley. It is estimated Nepal has over 10,000 ancient monuments.
The DoA has carried out search in three districts of the valley — Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur – recently and is making preparation for research in other 72 districts of the country. The DoA has prepared a team of 20 experts to carry out the work. nepalnews.com ia Oct 09 07
