Local bodies to remain shut today

The government employees have announced closure of all local bodies on Wednesday to mourn the murder of Ram Babu Sharma, who was a VDC secretary of Khatuwa VDC in Bara district.

Sharma was shot dead by the cadres of Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha on Monday night. The VDC Secretaries Rights Protection Centre has demanded stern action against the murderer, declaration of Sharma as martyr, compensation to the bereaved family and arrangement for education of his children.

The centre has warned to resume stir if the government failed to provide security to the VDC secretaries.

The motive behind killing Sharma has not been made public.

Meanwhile, an Armed Police Force (APF) team rescued one abducted person from the clutches of Jay Krishna Goit led Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM-G) and also arrested three of its cadres from Amarpatti of Rautahat district in a daring raid at its hideout late Tuesday night.

Mukta Karki of Matiauna VDC, Dumariya was rescued by the APF team from a house in Amarpatti where he had been kept by the JTMM-G men after being abducted from Dumariya Bazaar the same evening. The APF team was also successful in arresting three JTMM-G cadres who have been identified as Khayeru Dewan, Hridaynarayan Yadav and Chandra Shah.

SP Ram Krishna Lama of APF confirmed the arrest and said that the three are currently being interrogated.

In another report, two among the four persons abducted by the Jwala Singh faction of JTMM Monday night have been released. VDC secretary Ram Charitra Saha and Jaya Prakash Gautam of Bhandara Chitwan were released by the armed terrorist group Tuesday evening. However, the whereabouts and condition of the other two – Kul Prasad Gautam and Nilkantha Gautam – is still not known.

Reports said that JTMM-Jwala had phoned the abductees’ family from a unidentified location and demanded Rs 2,00,000 ransom for the release of the abductees. nepalnews.com ia/ag Oct 10 07
