Journalist Shah’s whereabouts remain still unknown

Whereabouts of Jitendra Shah, who was abducted from Bara a week ago, allegedly by the Maoists, still remain unknown despite the police and local journalists intensifying search for him.

According to the District Police Office of Bara, police teams have conducted intense search operation in several villages in the district since Thursday evening. They also combed through Dhyal village in Makwanpur district suspeacting that he might have been taken there.

Teams of journalists in Bara and Rautahat are also involved in the search, but haven’t been able to get any clue about his whereabouts.

Soon after lawmakers of different political parties raised serious concern over Shah’s abduction during the opening of the special session of the parliament, the Home Ministry had ordered the local administration to intensify search for Shah’s release.

While the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) and Press Chuatari Nepal, of which Shah was a central member, have accused the local Maoist leaders of abducting Shah, the Maoist leadership has denied any role of the party in the abduction episode.

Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said at the opening of the special House session that his party was ready to punish the local cadres if their involvement in the kidnapping was proven.

Shah was the Bara correspondent of Kathmandu-based Nepal F.M and Avenues TV. nepalnews.com mk Oct 13 07
