Next House session on Tuesday
The proceedings of the special session of the parliament that convened have been postponed till Tuesday after the parliamentary affairs committee today agreed to go by the seven parties' decision to extend the deadline for filing amendment proposals on the motion filed by the CPN (Maoist).
At the beginning of today’s session Speaker Subhash Nemwang informed the House about deferral of today’s pre-scheduled parliamentary proceedings for two days. He said that the next session would be held at 11 am on Tuesday and added that the amendment proposal should be filed before that.
Earlier today the parties had agreed to extend the deadline for filing the amendment proposal at the House by a day as they continued their efforts to find consensus on the demands made by the Maoists for declaration of republic from the House and fully proportional voting system.
The CPN (UML) had requested the parliament secretariat through Speaker Subas Nemwang to extend the date of filing amendment proposal at the parliament session by two days. However, the meeting of the advisory committee on parliamentary business held on Sunday morning accepted the UML proposal and agreed to extend the date by one day.
The parliament secretariat had set Saturday as deadline for filing amendment proposal on the Maoists’ motion. Two fringe communist parties including People's Front Nepal have filed amendment proposals on Saturday.
The UML said amendments should be filed only after the seven party leaders reach a consensus. The Nepali Congress has already decided to vote against the Maoist proposal while the UML is trying to agree the two parties on another political option. nepalnews.com ia/ag Oct 14 07
