INLS organises poets' conference in Kathmandu
The scene of the poets’ conference organised by the International Nepali Literary Society (INLS) in Kathmandu Sunday looked different from what we would observe in regular meets of Nepali poets.
The conference organised on the eve of the third global Non Resident Nepali conference not only gave the opportunity in bringing most of writers of Nepali Diaspora in a common forum, it also presented Nepali literary figures who write in English.
Writers like Yuyutsui R. D. Sharma and Tek Karki recited in English but their contents were different. Sharma elaborated the enticement in American society while Karki satirised the kind of nationalism witnessed during the recent reality show ‘Indian Idol’ on Sony TV.
Most of the poems reflected the drastic shift in issues raised in poems. Some were satirical of the current political crisis while others explained about their experiences in foreign land.
The poem recitation continued till end. In between them, the INLS honoured various literary figures with awards.
In his presentation on Nepali literature in Diaspora, Dr Khagendra Luintel urged the literary figures and linguistic experts to work on defining on Nepali literature and Diasporic literature. nepalnews.com ia Oct 14 07
