Apart from briefing the UN top brass on Nepal’s peace process, especially the political scenario after the suspension of the November elections, Martin will discuss the role his mission could play to ensure that the government and the Maoists stick to the comprehensive peace accord (CPA), it is learnt.
Before leaving for New York, Martin had held series of discussions with political leaders including Prime Minister Prime Girija Prasad Koirala and Maoist chairman Prachanda.
He is visiting the UN headquarters at a time when a debate has started in Nepal’s political circle whether or not the one year term of the UNMIN should be extended in the wake of uncertainly over the CA elections. UNMIN’s term ends in January next year. nepalnews.com mk Oct 13 07
