Journalist shot in Rupandehi

Unidentified assailants shot and injured Bhim Prasad Gurung, a journalist with Radio Lumbini, late Saturday night.

Gurung, who is also chairman of Indigenous Journalists Federation, was in his home at Jerwani VDC-9, Rupandehi when the assailants carried out the attack. The gang also looted his house and stabbed three of his family members when they resisted. Police said the armed looters made off with Rs 50,000 in cash and of 15 tolas of gold jewelry.

Gurung, who got shot in the stomach, has been brought to Kathmandu for treatment. Three other family members are undergoing medical treatment at Lumbini Zonal Hospital in Butwal. Doctors said their condition is stable and are out of danger.

Meanwhile, Federation of Nepalese Journalist has condemned the attack on journalist Gurung and demanded action against the people involved in it. nepalnews.com ag Oct 15 07
