Parliamentary panel to find whereabouts of journalist Shah

Birendra Shah

A parliamentary panel has been formed by the government Tuesday to find the whereabouts and condition of Bara-based journalist Birendra Shah.

A meeting of the Parliamentary Human Rights and Social Justice Committee held today formed a four-member panel led by parliamentarian Urmila Aryal for field inspections to find the whereabouts and condition of journalist Shah who went missing after being abducted under mysterious circumstances by Maoist activists from Bara district some two weeks ago.

The decision to form a parliamentary panel has also come a day after the International Federation of Journalist (IFJ), in a strong-worded statement, urged the government to take action to ensure that those responsible for attacking and abducting journalists are punished.

The other members of the panel include parliamentarian Lila Naichai, Kamal Panta and Tilak Pariyar.

The panel would leave for Bara district tomorrow for the field inspection and will begin its work from Thursday. nepalnews.com ag Oct 16 07
