Dysentery claims 16 in Kalikot; 3 die in Rautahat
Diarrhea outbreak has killed at least 16 people in Ghaulagoh VDC in remote Kalikot district since last six days.
Reports say the victims of diarrhea outbreak, most of whom are children and elderly people, died due to lack of medicines. The District Public Health Office of Kalikot has sent a medical team to the affected area, but drugs are in short supply in local health centres.
More than 500 people in different villages in the VDC have been affected by diarrhea, reports added.
Similarly, three people have died of diarrhea in Tejapakad and Maryadapur VDCs in Rautahat district.
A 4-year old girl and a youth died Wednesday while a death was reported this morning. Dozens of diarrhea patients have been undergoing treatment at the district hospital in Gaur.
Reports said the number of patients is growing in these VDCs due to polluted drinking water and lack of sanitation. nepalnews.com mk Oct 18 07
