Parliamentary panel in Bara to find abducted journo
A parliamentary panel headed by lawmaker Urmila Aryal arrived in Bara for field inspections as part of its efforts to trace the whereabouts of abducted Bara-based journalist Birendra Shah Thursday.
The four-member panel held discussions with local politicians, journalists, rights activists and local residents regarding the circumstances leading to the abduction of journalist Shah, allegedly by Maoist cadres, two weeks ago.
The parliamentary panel was formed on Tuesday to find out the whereabouts Shah after several national and international media organisations urged the government to ensure his safe release and take action against those responsible for attacking and abducting journalists.
The other members of the panel include parliamentarian Lila Naichai, Kamal Pant and Tilak Pariyar.
Meanwhile, a team of National Human Rights Council (NHRC) has also reached Bara to find the whereabouts of journalist Shah.
Shah, a central member of Press Chautari Nepal, was abducted from Bara on Oct 05. nepalnews.com ag Oct 18 07
