Dashain celebrations in London

Nepalis residing in UK celebrated the ‘Bada Dashain’ festival among their families and friends as well as in various public functions on Sunday.

The Nepali embassy in London organised a Dashain reception and ‘Tika ceremony’ by extending an open invitation to all the Nepalese and friends of Nepal at the embassy premises in Kensington Palace. Charge d’ affaires at the Nepali embassy in London, Jhabindra P Aryal, and other staff members of the embassy welcomed the visiting guests on the occasion.

Yeti Nepali Association UK, a leading community organization of the Nepalis in UK, organised a Dashain Get Together and Cultural Programme at Priory Community Center, Acton. Addressing the function as chief guest, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations Kul C Gautam said he was moved by the love towards the motherland and Nepali culture among the Nepalis wherever they lived. He said the United Nations was working with the international community to ensure that Nepal’s peace process moved ahead to a logical end.

Deputy Speaker of the interim legislature, Mrs Chitra Lekha Yadav, said she was quite impressed to see that expatriate Nepalis were contributing to popularize and pass on the heritage to new generations by observing festivals like Dashain. She said Nepal was passing through a critical transitional phase but said Nepalis were capable of resolving the ongoing political deadlock themselves.

Acting President of Yeti Nepali Association UK, Rabindra Kandel, and General Secretary Rajendra Pudasaini called for more collaboration and exchange of ideas among the Nepalis residing abroad to be able to help the motherland in a much better way. They also thanked the distinguished guests and members of Nepali community for taking part in the programme enthusiastically.

A cultural programme was also organised at the function.

British Gurkha Welfare Society organised a dinner inviting British Gurkha families and other members of Nepali community at Rayners Lane on London on Friday.

Nepali community in Aldershot, Cambridge, Edinburgh and other parts of the UK also celebrated Dashain exchanging good wishes, text messages and organizing various fun-filled programmes, reports said. nepalnews.com Oct 23 07
