Diarrhea claims 10 more lives in three districts
Ten persons, including two minors, died and dozens others have fallen ill due to a diarrhea outbreak in Makwanpur, Udayapur and Saptari districts till Wednesday.
In Hetauda, six persons died while over four dozen villagers have fallen seriously due to diarrhea in Sarikhet VDC of Makwanpur district in the last three weeks. Reports quoting former VDC chairman said that the number of people falling ill with the disease is increasing everyday.
According to reports from Saptari, two children –Gulabi Kumari Mukhiya, 6, of Sakarpura VDC-7 and Kalpana Yadav,5, of Karsaith VDC-4 – succumbed while undergoing treatment at the local health post. With the death of two minors, the death toll in the district due to diarrhea has reached 21 in the last two months.
Hundreds of people in several of the 54 VDCs of the district have also been affected due to diarrhea.
In a similar report from Udaypur, two persons died and over a dozen others have fallen ill due to a serious bout of diarrhea in Pashimuttar VDC-9 in Udayapur
Lilamaya Khatiwada, 75, and her daughter-in-law Dhakamaya, 35, of Sorung VDC-9 died due to diarrhea on Tuesday.
The locals who have fallen seriously ill due to diarrhea are undergoing treatment at the local health post.
Reports said that a team of doctors with necessary medicines has reached the diarrhea-afflicted village and have begun treating the sick villagers. nepalnews.com ag Oct 25 07
