Addressing the 2nd meeting of the home ministers of SAARC nations in the Indian capital New Delhi Thursday, Minister Sitaula said, “Nepal has focused its entire energy in bringing the peace process to its logical conclusion through election to constituent assembly.”

He further said that Nepal stands against all kinds of terrorism and that there would be full cooperation and support of Nepal in wiping out the scourge of terrorism from the face of South Asia.

“SAARC nations need to come together in this fight against terrorism,” he said.

The Home Minister also stressed that the governments of the SAARC member states should increase public participation in all spheres of development – be it social, economic and political - so that they would be able to address the valid demands of citizens.

Saying that the trafficking in women and children for prostitution is the problem dogging the entire region, Situala stated that SAARC nations should join hands to solve this problem once and for all. He also stressed the need to set up effective mechanism to deal with this problem.

Curbing the scourge of terrorism, narcotics smuggling, organised crimes and human trafficking is the focus of the three daylong SAARC Home Ministers’ conference.

The meet is also discussing ways to address all multilateral issues, including terrorism, narcotics trade and trafficking and migration of people along the porous borders between countries of the region.

The agenda of today’s conference includes terrorism, drug and human trafficking, money laundering and the Mutual Legal Assistance treaty.

According to news agencies, India is lobbying for strict laws and cooperation to dismantle the financing channels of terrorists by addressing issues of money laundering and has proposed to monitor non-governmental organisations, banks, insurance companies and charitable organisations to prevent their misuse. India also circulated a draft for an additional clause in the SAARC Convention on Suppression of Terrorism that would allow detainees suspected of transnational crimes, such as terrorism, to be available to other countries. nepalnews.com ag Oct 25 07
