Press Chautari demands immediate release of abducted journo

Press Chautari Nepal has criticised both the Maoists and the government for still not being able to disclose the whereabouts and condition of Bara-based journalist Birendra Shah who went missing subsequently after being abducted by Maoist cadres 20 days ago.

Saying that the Maoists have committed an irresponsible act that is against humanity and blaming the state of siding with the culprits, Press Chautari Nepal has in a statement issued Thursday demanded for the immediate release of journalist Shah.

After the abduction and subsequent disappearance of journalist Shah, the Federation of Nepalese Journalist (FNJ), INSEC, Reporters’ Club, Press Chautari and the Parliamentary Panel formed to probe into the incident has already submitted its field investigation report to the government.

The report prepared by the Parliamentary Panel has shown the clear involvement of Maoist district level leader Lal Bahadur Chaudhari, Hareram Patel, Kundan Faujdar and Ramekal Sahani in the abduction of journalist Shah.

Stating that the panel report has shown that the Chief District Office is in constant touch with the Maoist leadership in the district for the release of Shah, Press Chautari has expressed deep concern over the Maoists still not disclosing the whereabouts and condition of journalist Shah. nepalnews.com ag Oct 26 07
