Student organisations ask govt to withdraw fuel price hike
Eight student groups affiliated with various political parties have urged the government to immediately withdraw the hike in the price of petroleum products.
A meeting of the eight student organisations, including the Maoist-aligned All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary), held on Friday made the call, describing the POL price hike as unjustifiable.
The student groups also decided to organise protest programmes to pressure the government to withdraw its decision.
According to Thakur Gaire, chairman of the UML-affiliated All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), students will jointly submit a memo to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Saturday, urging him to withdraw the price hike.
As part of their protest, the students have decided to picket the Nepal Oil Corporation’s head office in Kathmandu and organise rallies in different places around the country.
