Maoist denial of involvement in Shah’s abduction 'height of political duplicity': FNJ
President of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), Bishnu Nisthuri, has termed the denial by the Maoists of its party’s involvement in the abduction of Bara-based journalist Birendra Shah as the “height of its political duplicity”.
Speaking at an interaction program organised by the Saptari chapter of FNJ in Rajbiraj Saturday, Nisthuri said that the Maoist statement, which contradicts the findings of various independent groups including the parliamentary committee that states Maoist involvement in the abduction, has drawn serious attention of the whole media sector.
Nisthuri further said the situation for working journalists in the country is getting more dangerous as the administration in recent days has largely failed to contain the surge in criminal activities in the Terai.
“The political parties should not forget the role the media played during the April 2006 people’s movement,” Nisthuri said, adding, “It is unfortunate that the parties in the government are not acting seriously to stop attacks against the press.” nepalnews.com ag Oct
