NC to vote against Maoist proposal; UML not to oppose it
If push comes to the shove, the Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) will vote in favour of the Maoist proposal at the parliament – on republic and proportional representation election system, say its leaders.
According to UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal , the party cannot vote against the Maoist proposal as it contains the demands that were earlier raised by the UML.
Earlier, UML leader Jhal Nath Khanal, too, had made similar comments saying that the party cannot vote against the Maoist proposal.
On the other hand, the Nepali Congress (NC) has clearly stated that it will vote against the Maoist proposal, in addition to other amendment proposals tabled by UML and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP).
The meeting of the NC parliamentary party held on Monday morning decided to vote against the Maoist proposal.
However, the parties including NC, UML and Maoists have been saying that they want to resolve the impasse through negotiations. Voting, they say, is only the last resort. nepalnews.com sd Oct 29 07
