House to continue debate on Wednesday; party leaders to engage in parleys

The special session of the parliament will continue to witness debate on the Maoist proposal on republic and proportional representation election system on Wednesday also.

Over two dozen MPs from various parties are still scheduled to make their speeches at the parliament on the proposal.

Following their address, the House will move on to the next phase, which could see the voting take place to decide the matter.

However, as UML MP Raghuji Panta said, even the voting will not be able to break the political deadlock since "parties will vote in favour of their respective proposals."

The Maoists will vote in favour of their proposal while the UML has hinted that it will stick with its amendment proposal. Nepali Congress has said it will vote against both proposals. This means the crisis will continue.

Meanwhile, ahead of the House session, which is set to begin around 11 am, NC is preparing to hold its internal meeting to forge strategy to deal with the deadlock in the House.

Reports say that Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala could meet with UML general secretary Madhav Nepal and Maoist chairman Prachanda on Wednesday. nepalnews.com sd Oct 31 07
