Nepal ready to promote human rights: Acharya

Madhu Raman Acharya, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations expressed full commitment of Nepal in protecting and promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Making a statement on agenda items concerning promotion and protection of human rights at the Third Committee of the 62nd session of the General Assembly of the United Nations on Tuesday, he said that since the restoration of democracy last year and after the signing of the comprehensive peace deal between the government and Maoists, considerable improvements have been registered with regard to the human rights in Nepal.

Ambassador Acharya also said that the government is currently engaged in serious dialogue, including through deliberation in the parliament, to resolve all political differences with a view to fix the dates of the elections to the Constituent Assembly as soon as possible. He also expressed confidence that these and other developments in the peace process will make a big difference in progressive enjoyment of human rights by all the people of Nepal in the days to come. nepalnews.com ia Oct 31 07
