Koirala-Deuba talks ends inconclusively

The much-hyped summit talks between Prime Minister and president of Nepali Congress (NC) Girija Prasad Koirala and president of NC-Democratic Sher Bahadur Deuba has ended inconclusively in Baluwatar on Friday evening.

Although the meeting was expected to finalise the unification between two Congress parties, the leaders ended up assigning the job once again to the respective taskforces formed earlier by the two parties.

Reports say that the leaders have asked the taskforces to settle 'technical matters' to clear the way for unification.

"Both the party presidents had serious meeting. They have assigned the taskforces to settle the remaining matters," Bimalendra Nidhi, general secretary of NC-Democratic, who attended the meeting, told reporters. He refused to elaborate what matters were still remaining before the unification could be announced.

The meeting of the taskforces could take place on Saturday.

The meeting had taken place at a time when the unification process is said to have reached a final phase. nepalnews.com sd Sep 07 07
