Life in the east hit by strike
Life in the eastern districts has been hit hard by the continued strike called by the agitating ethnic groups, Limbuwan, Khubuwan, Kirats, dissident faction of the Madheshi Janadhikari Forum and Tamasaling, among others.
Duo to the strike, consumers are facing short supply of the daily food items in the market. The consumers are also facing shortage of cooking gas and petroleum products. Jhapa, Ilam, and even parts of Morang districts have been affected by the strike.
The ethnic groups have called indefinite strike in the eastern districts demanding immediate release of two of their cadres arrested by the police during the protests. The ethnic groups have been organising protests demanding full proportional representative electoral system and guarantee of ethnic autonomy in federal Nepal.
The protesting ethnic groups also warned to boycott the constituent assembly elections if their demands are not met. nepalnews.com ia Sep 20 07
