IOC to increase petro supplies

At a time when there is a stark shortage of petroleum products in the market, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the sole provider of petroleum products to Nepal, has said it would increase the supplies of petroleum product to Nepal to ease the crisis, reports said.

Puroshottam Ojha, secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, Industries and Supply told Kantipur Daily that IOC assured it would increase supply of petroleum products to Nepal following a prime ministerial level request to the Indian government.

“From tomorrow increased amount of petroleum products is coming from India,” he said, “In few days time the stark shortage of petroleum products we see in the market would be solved.”

According to Nepal Oil Corporation’s acting director Digamber Jha, IOC has already directed the Raxaul oil depot to do what is needed to solve the petroleum crisis in Nepal to some extent. NOC said Raxaul depot has already started to supply 2 thousand kilolitres of petroleum product to Nepal and would very soon increase it to 2,500 kiloliters, which should solve the immense shortage of petro-products in Nepal. Following NOC's inability to clear past dues, IOC had brought down the supplies of petroleum products to Nepal to 1,200 kiloliters owing to which serpentine queues in front of petrol stations where common sights in Kathmandu valley. nepalnews.com ag Sep 21 07
