NC, NC-D unification date likely to be announced today
The meeting between Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Nepali Congress (democratic) President Sher Bahadur Deuba scheduled for Monday is all set to fix a date for the announcement of the unification between Nepali Congress and its splinter NC-D.
After the meeting of the joint task team of the two parties formed to find ways for party unification Sunday made important decisions regarding various contentious topics that had stalled the unification including the leadership in the district committee and sister organizations of the unified party, the unification between NC and its faction NC-D became almost certain.
“The report of the agreement reached between the task team of the two parties would be presented to the leaders Monday,” said Minendra Rijal, a member in the task team from NC-D. “We have settled all the issues from our level and there are some issues to be settled by the leaders themselves. After those issues are settled during Monday’s meeting, a date for unification would be announced.”
The leaders of the two parties are also likely to agree on holding a joint meeting of the Mahasamiti Tuesday or Wednesday and announce the party’s unification after five years of their split, reports said. nepalnews.com ag Sep 24 07
