Koirala, Deuba sign unification document

President of Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala and president of Nepali Congress (Democratic) Sher Bahadur Deuba signed the party unification document on Tuesday morning.

Deuba had reached the Prime Minister's residence Baluwatar to sign the document before his party's central committee meeting that is to be held at Birendra International Convention Centre (BICC). This will be the last central committee meeting of the NC-D which will approve the unity deal.

In the meantime, the Mahasamiti meeting of the NC-D is scheduled to start at BICC shortly which will endorse the unification proposal. The political report of general secretary Bimelendra Nidhi will also be presented at the inaugural session.

After the inaugural session, the joint meeting of the Mahasamitis (NC and NC-D) will take place at the NC party office in Sanepa this afternoon where the formal announcement of the unification will be made.

After four months of debates, the unification deal was reached on Monday at the presence of two party presidents.

According to agreements, Deuba would occupy third rank in the party while Sushil Koirala will be acting president. Two vice presidents of NC-D Prakash Man Singh and Gopal Man Shrestha will continue as vice presidents in the new party, general secretary of NC_D Bimelendra Nidhi will also continue working in the same portfolio while the joint general secretary of NC Dr Ram Baran Yadav has been promoted to the position of general secretary. nepalnews.com ia Sep 25 07
