HBC journos end strike

After one and a half month of strike, the journalists of Radio HBC FM ended their agitation from September 24.

With the end of their strike, news and news based programs have resumed in the HBC FM. The strike ended after the management agreed to fulfill the demands of the agitating radio staffers.

According to a statement issued by HBC Radio Workers' Joint Struggle Committee, the agreement was signed between Gajendra Kumar Lama, the representative of HBC chairman Chhetan Gurman Shrestha, and Narayan Bhandari, representative from agitating staffers.

The management has agreed to their demands including issuing appointment letters to all journalists and employees of the radio station effective from the date of their joining the service as per the Working Journalists Act 2007 and increment in their salary. The management also agreed to form a committee, including the representatives from management and staff, to address other demands of the protesting workers within seven days.

The strike had started from August 7. The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has welcomed the agreement and hailed it as a victory for employees of the whole nation. nepalnews.com Sep 25 07
