Unified NC to endorse republican manifesto; against declaring republic by parliament

The joint Mahasamiti meeting of unified Nepali Congress (NC) is expected to conclude on Wednesday by endorsing the republican manifesto.

Likewise, the Wednesday's session will also discuss and approve the political resolution presented by Ram Chandra Poudel.

However, Poudel's report is said to be against declaring republic by the current parliament – as demanded by the Maoists. The report says that declaring republic by the parliament would be in contravention of earlier agreement to do so through elected Constituent Assembly (CA).

Once the Mahasamiti approves the manifesto and resolution, the six-decades-old party will formally become a pro-republican party.

The draft manifesto of NC also proposes federal restructuring of the state including central and provincial parliaments.
