INLS announces two more awards and fellowship
International Nepali Literary Society (INLS) has decided to honour its founding president Hom Nath Subedi with the first INLS-Diaspora Late Nripa Dhoj Karki Memorial Award for significant contribution in the promotion of Nepali language and literature beyond South Asia.
According to a press statement issued by Suman Timsina, chairman of the INLS award committee, Subedi will be given the award during the third Non Resident Nepali conference in Kathmandu next month.
Subedi has published over 13 literary publications, edited magazines and over 100 articles in various magazines all over the world. A research was also completed on his contribution to Nepali literature at Tribhuvan University. He has been a motivation and a mentor to several such initiatives around the globe to promote richness in Nepali language and literature.
Dr. Shyam Karki and Indira Foundation (USA) is the sponsor of the award and includes US$500.00 cash and a plaque.
Similarly, Balkrishna Sharma, a lecturer at Saraswati Multiple Campus and Kathmandu Institute of Science & Technology (KIST College) will be honoured with the first INLS-Diaspora Khemlal Harikala Lamichane Award.
Sharma, a graduate of Nepali department at Tribhuvan University, has done research on the literature and contribution of Nepali writers in the Diaspora.
INLS said the award is to encourage and promote such work in coming years. The award is sponsored by Jiba Lamichane (Russia) and it includes US$500.00 cash and a plaque.
Further, the INLS said it will grant the first INLS-Diaspora Lt Phool Kumari Mahato Memorial Fellowship to the Nepali department, Tribhuvan University. The fellowship is sponsored by Dr. Upendra Mahato (Russia) to encourage individuals and institutions in South-Asia to study and research on the language and literature of the Diaspora.
