Maoists register petition demanding special session of the House
The Maoists and two other left parties have jointly filed a petition demanding the special session of the parliament.
They registered the application at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Friday afternoon.
Chief whip of the Maoist party Dina Nath Sharma told Nepalnews that the application has been filed jointly by Maoists, CPN (Ekikrit) and CPN (Samyukta) at around 3 pm.
He said the special session has been demanded to pass resolution to abolish monarchy before the constituent assembly elections are held on November 22.
Sharma, Krishna Bahadur Mahara and leaders of Ekikrit and Samyukta had reached the prime minister's office to register the application. The parliamentary secretariat was also notified of their application.
The application has been filed on the day the leaders of seven parties are locked in hectic parleys to discuss the demands of the Maoists.
As per the interim constitution, the prime minister has to call special session of the parliament if one-fourth of the parliament members demand so. In the interim parliament, 83 members are needed to meet the quorum while the Maoists have 84 members of their own. nepalnews.com ia Sept 28 07
