Four-wheelers are now prohibited in Thamel

In a bid to develop Thamel into an organized ‘tourist hub’, the Tourism Development Council has prohibited four-wheelers from entering the Thamel area from Thursday.

The council took the decision to this effect after concluding that the increased traffic in the narrow roads of Thamel is making it difficult to provide effective services to tourists and thus hampering the tourism prospects of the area.

DSP Prem Malla of the Valley Traffic Police said that motorcycles, cycles and rickshaws would however be allowed to ply in Thamel like before. nepalnews.com ag Sep 29 07
