Strike shuts down schools across the country
A strike called by Educational Republican Forum has closed most of the private and public schools across the country on Sunday.
The Forum enforced the closure saying that the government and the private school operators failed to implement the agreement signed with it in May this year.
The Forum’s call came almost suddenly, affecting hundreds of thousands of students studying in private and public schools. All schools in the capital Kathmandu remain closed.
According to Guna Raj Lohani, the president of the Forum, teachers are compelled to announce strike as the government and the private school operators failed to keep their promise to implement the agreement to provide better facilities and give permanent status to all the schoolteachers.
The Forum had earlier given mid-August deadline to meet the demands. nepalnews.com mk Sep 30 07
