An expedition to promote eco-friendly mountaineering
With the aim of drawing the world's attention to rapid melting of glaciers, a team led by Dawa Steven Sherpa is heading for Eco-Everest Expedition from April 6.
"The 11-member team will complete this mission within 62 days," Sherpa said at a press conference, Thursday. The team will be joined by famous Japanese climber and alpinist Ken Noguchi up to the base camp of the Everest.
Sherpa said that they would bring all the wastages back to base camp. They would use solar technology for boiling water and appropriate bags in collecting the human wastages including water bottles, according Sherpa.
Sherpa informed that they had plans to promote such expeditions on a long term basis with cooperation of the people from all over the world who are concerned about the Himalayan ecology.
International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), United Nations Expedition Program (UNEP) and Asian Trekking are cooperating with this expedition. nepalnews.com ps Apr 03 08
