Carter Center officials meet YCL leaders

Senior officials of the Carter Centre met chairman of the Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) Ganesh Man Pun Wednesday afternoon.

The meeting held at Soaltee Hotel where visiting former US President and co-founder of the Carter Center, Jimmy Carter, is staying, comes in the wake of fresh poll-related violence that has claimed the lives of eight cadres of the CPN-Maoist, the parent party of YCL, since Tuesday evening.

During the meeting, Center's officials are learnt to have asked Pun about the allegations made against Maoist cadres that they are involved in attacking activists of other political parties.

YCL general secretary Dilip Prajapati was also present at the meeting.

YCL chairman Pun told reporters that he explained to Center's officials that "minor clashes" that are common during election are magnified beyond proportions by attaching YCL's name with it.

He also said he told them that the YCL was committed to creating a peaceful environment the CA polls taking place on Thursday. nepalnews.com ag Apr 09 08
