Morally inappropriate to continue in govt, says MK Nepal

The general secretary of the Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) who resigned from his party position owning up the moral responsibility for the party's astounding defeat at the election, has also said that it will now be morally inappropriate to continue in the government.

"We have concluded that it is morally inappropriate to continue in the government. The decision will soon be taken by the party central committee on this issue," Nepal told a press conference held at party's headquarters in Balkhu, Sunday.

His decision to resign as UML general secretary will be discussed by the party's standing committee meeting this evening.

"Being the general secretary, I am the one most responsible for the party's victory or defeat," said Nepal.

"The party had expected that it would win enough seats to be in leadership position," he said, expressing surprise over the results.

He, however, said that UML workers will continue to work with high morale. "One election is the not the end of the road. We will come back," he said.

When asked if UML's decision not to forge electoral alliance with the Maoists had backfired, Nepal said the issue would be minutely analysed once election results from across the country are available.

Nepal said that his party will work with sense of responsibility and in cooperation with other parties in the coming days when new constitution will be written through Constituent Assembly (CA). nepalnews.com sd Apr 13 08
