UML leaders confer with Prime Minister over poll results

Top leaders of Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) met with Prime Minister and president of Nepali Congress (NC) Girija Prasad Koirala to discuss about the poll results.

Both NC and UML had faced huge defeat in the Constituent Assembly (CA) election, following which the UML has already decided to pull out from the government.

Reports say the UML team including acting general secretary Amrit Kumar Bohara and leader Madhav Kumar Nepal met with PM Girija Prasad Koirala to discuss how the political situation would unfurl in the coming days since the Maoists appear set to become the single largest party. They discussed about the formation of Constituent Assembly (CA), say reports.

Meanwhile, UML leader and Education Minister Pradeep Nepal said that all of the UML ministers will resign en masse. "We have collected signatures of all our ministers except two who will reach the capital on Wednesday. After they put their signature, our team leader Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan will submit our joint resignation to the PM," Nepal said.

NC, however, has not made any formal decision on whether it will continue in the government that looks likely to be headed by the Maoists once the full results of the election is made public. nepalnews.com sd Apr 16 08
