Tibetan exiles launch relay hunger strike in Pokhara
Tibetan exiles, who had halted their protest programmes in view of last week's constituent assembly polls, have resumed protests from Pokhara.
Some two dozen Tibetans are sitting for relay hunger strike at Lakeside, Pokhara's main tourist hub, from Wednesday to protest the recent clampdown on pro-independence protesters in Lhasa by the Chinese government.
Unlike in the past, there were no reports of police intervention in the hunger strike.
There are an estimated 3000 Tibetans in Pokhara.
Tibetan refugees had staged a series of demonstrations in front of the Chinese Embassy, United Nations office and Chinese Embassy's visa office in Kathmandu over the past few weeks.
They have resumed their protest at a time when the CPN-Maoist, which had issued a strong-worded statement deploring the Tibetans' protests here, prepares to lead a new government after sweeping the CA polls. nepalnews.com mk Apr 16 08
