Yeti organises New Year function in UK

Yeti Nepali Association UK organised a colourful programme in London on the occasion of Nepali New Year 2065 BS.

Addressing the function organised at Alperton on Monday, president of the Association Chiranjibi Dhakal wished all a very Happy New Year and expressed hope that after the Constituent Assembly polls Nepal would be able to move towards an era of peace, progress and reconciliation. He said in the huge garden of UK, hundreds of communities were blossoming including the Nepalese.

Chief guest at the ceremony and Nepali ambassador to UK, Murari Raj Sharma, said people can't forget their nationality and nation wherever they are. He said Nepalese are a tolerant community and added that whatever the changes unity among the Nepalese would remain intact. He also called upon all to work towards forging unity among the Nepali community and preserve Nepali culture.

Speakers including newly elected vice President of the Non Resident Nepalese Association (NRN) UK Ang Kaljung Lama, Past president of the Yeti Nepali Association UK Khagendra Nepali, senior vice president of the Association Rabindra Kadel, Dr Dharma Shakya of Nepal Buddha Dharma Society and Dr Govinda Dahal of the Center for Nepal Studies, University of Southampton UK, wished all a very Happy New Year and expressed hope that the New Year would lead the country towards sustainable peace, cooperation and understanding among the Nepalese people.

Various artistes performed cultural programme at the second half of the programme. Cultural coordinator of the Association Sapan Rai and Dhruba Dhakal had coordinated the cultural programme.

Ambassador Sharma also unveiled a musical cassette produced by the YAD group on the occasion. The Group has said the proceeds from the cassette will be utilised to offer scholarship to the needy Nepalese students.

General Secretary of the Association Rajendra Pudasaini thanked all for their active participation and expressed hope that Nepalese residing in the UK would continue to show their enthusiasm in activities aimed at promoting and strengthening their community. nepalnews.com Apr 17 08
